About the 8th Waste

LEAN thinking is all about eliminating waste. Waste basically comes in 8 forms, and the 8th one is about wasting human potential. For example, people that know exactly where something could be improved, but don’t know how to do that. Or, someone operating on 60% of their skill level. LEAN works with people, not for people. Unlock your GEMBA and realize improvements and growth.

About me

About the 8th form of Waste

I’ve been a Lean Six Sigma enthusiast for more than 15 years. In companies like AkzoNobel, PostNL and Spotta I have trained hundreds and hundreds of people, all across the globe, leaving a trail of Lean enthusiasts. This path has also taken me to various parts of large companies, from HR to ISC to Procurement, and even shared service centers.  I enjoy sharing my experiences with you!

Not using the human potential at hand is possibly the worst kind of waste nowadays, as labor markets are tough, and the war for talent is on. Instead of hiring more and more people doing menial tasks, why not up skill and do more with what you have? Unlocking human potential is something I feel very passionate about, and talk about low hanging fruit.. The people are already in your organization and know exactly where and what to improve. Why not give them the tools?
